All The Squee That's Fit to Print

So many updates in such a short time!  These little babies are growing fast!
One adopter stopped by today to pick out 3 little girls to take home next week - and they might just make it a foursome!   So exciting!

These faces... I can't even stand how adorable they are:

Mama Zoe and Mama Chloe (who have been co-parenting both of their litters) are doing really well, and the person who's going to adopt them when all of the babies are weaned is really looking forward to them coming home!  There was a third "oops" litter because the mamas were left with the papas by the previous owner before coming to us, so right after Zoe gave birth, she fell pregnant again - and she just had seven more babies!  This will be her very last litter since we have been super-diligent about separating boys from girls at the 4.5 week mark.  It looks like the 7 latest babies are growing in dark fuzz (all but one - so that will probably be another ruby-eyed off-white).

We will also be getting in some babies from other "oops" litters from different locations in Southern Ontario.  There will be many opportunities to adopt in the next few weeks!  Stay tuned for updates, or visit us on Facebook!  We already have a couple of pictures on our Facebook page of some really pretty tan-hooded dumbo babies that will be ready to be adopted in a week or two!

Wow... It's been FOREVER

So.. it's been awhile, huh?  Mostly because we've started up a Facebook page, and I keep forgetting to post here.  :/  YAY!  Go me!

If you're interested in seeing us on FB, here's the link to join our page:

I'll try to remember to update here, too.  :)

The Ratscue is still going strong.  We have a bunch of new babies that came to us as two "Ooops" litters.  (We NEVER breed.  Every rat that comes through here is a rescue.)  They're adorable.  I will be listing their genders and availability as we get everyone sorted.  We're very happy to say there's been some interest and a few have already been promised to very happy homes (including the two mamas!)

I haven't been receiving notifications about comments on this blog, so it might be easier to just go to the the FB page and comment if you see something you are interested in here, or email me at nertnie@gmail.com.

So the babies that will be available within the next few weeks are:

Two grey and one cream coloured (males) dumbos.  These guys have just opened their eyes, so they're a couple of weeks old!

We have 9  black dumbos, born to a rex mama.  They are still too young to tell if they're rex, but they are definitely dumbo.  :)   Eyes still aren't open so they're just over a week old.    We have not sorted genders yet.

And we have 5 babies that will be joining us to go up for adoption once they're weaned from their mama in a couple of weeks.  They are all beige hooded dumbos.   There are 2 girls and 3 boys.

Any rat adopted from our Ratscue is to be adopted as a PET only.  No feeders, no breeders.  Don't forget to look us up on Facebook!  :D

Uncle Smokey and the Babies

The time has come - these babies are ready for adoption.  All three Mamas are living together with the girls, and we invited Uncle Smokey to live with the boys to teach them proper ratty etiquette.  :)

Smokey lost his last cagemate recently to cancer.  He was living alone after always having had someone in his cage and his life.  Because of his mellow personality, we thought he might be a good fit for the boys - to teach them how to be Zen ratties.  It seems to be working.  Smokey has taken to the role of uncle like a natural.   Don't worry - we are keeping a couple of the babies so Smokey will not end up alone.  :)

The Mamas babies are doing just as well.  All three Mamas are getting along, and the litters have all accepted one another.  They're sweet, and crazy, and popcorning, and love shirt snuggles.  :)

If you are in the Toronto area and are interested in adopting a couple of these adorable little ones, please contact us at tjratscue@gmail.com.

Time Flies for Little Guys (n' Gals)

There has been so much crazy, popcorning, bouncy white fluffy distractions lately!

The girls and boys have been separated.. girls are still living with Mama rats, and one of our older rescue boys has grudgingly "volunteered" to become Uncle Smokey to the 17 crazy little boys. Smokey is a mellow old soul, and seems to take every little skirmish and wrestling match in stride.

More pics to come soon! As soon as I can get any one of them to stay still....

My, How They've Grown - An Update

It feels like it happened just a short while ago - our rescue gaining 13 new ratties, and then a couple of weeks later, some pink bundles of joy.  Here we are a week later - the pink nuggets aren't pink anymore - they all have fur.  Some curly, some straight!  And the first litter is already trying to climb the bars of the cage!  It won't be long now until these adorable little guys are ready for adoption!  If you are interested, please email us at tjratscue@gmail.com to ask questions or book an appointment!

Adorable, aren't they??  :)  As you can see, all but one are PEW - some are Rex, some are smooth. All are socialized and happy to be picked up.

Wiggly Bundles of... Pink

This is Eggshell.  She's one of three new mamas in our Ratscue.  She's not overly happy in this pic, but she's still the least crazy of the three.  New mamas can be very protective of their new brood.

She's also the only smooth PEW (that's Pink Eyed White) that gave birth.  The other two are Rex.  That means their coats are curly.  We'll try to get pics of them later when they're not so snarky.  :)
Eggshell recently gave birth to these crazy wee beasties.  Yes, there are 10.  We're considering ourselves very lucky since rats can have litters of 22 babies.  They're already comfortable with being touched, so socialization should be fairly easy with these little guys.  Because of their previous situation, we're trying not to disturb the mamas too much so they feel as safe and comfortable as possible.  Also, mamas are snarky.  I believe we've mentioned that.

This is the first litter that was born.  Mama was not available for comment.. well, she was, but it was a lot of squeaking that we took to mean, "Leave me alone!  I've got 11 babies hanging on, and I'm tired and a bit snarky!  Go away!  Get the hell off my lawn!"

Our final litter shown here, has the ONE agouti ratty in the bunch. There was ONE agouti male in the lot.  We're fairly certain we know who papa is.  Mama is Maddie, a rex PEW, and Papa is Sam.  There are only 8 in this litter.  I'm sure Maddie is even more relieved than we are!

We will be posting updates on their growth and development.  We are especially interested in the outcome of their coats.  Did two rex ratties mate?  Will there be a double rex rat in their midst? How many of those cute curly rexes?  So many unknowns!  But we do know one thing! There is a lot of snoogles to be given in the next few weeks!

This is just the beginning...

And we're live in 3.... 2.... 1.....

Well, hey!  Didn't see you there.  How ya doin'?

Allow us to introduce ourselves.  We're Trish and John's Ratscue.  There's usually a bunch of us on any given day, but we're always warm, comfy, clean, our bellies are full, and there's always time for snoogles and scritches!

This blog will be what's new, who's new, what's happening, and whatever happens to come out of the keyboard.  :)

Things are pretty exciting here lately.  We welcomed a bunch of new ratties.  Boys and girls had to be separated as they came in the door - and you know what THAT means!  Yep.  NEW babies!  Three lots of them!  So we'll have a bunch ready for adoption in about 5 weeks!  SO EXCITING!  Also.. a little crazy.  Mama rats be cray.  Tip of the day:  NEVER leave boy rats and girl rats together.   Not even for a SECOND.  We're quick, and we know how to take advantage!

Our next post will be pics of the newest little pink balls of.. pink... and the following posts will be as we follow their development.  They are seriously cute.

So.. welcome to our blog.. feel free to post comments.   We love to hear about how adorable we are.  ;)
